Aight so I kept getting this error screen consistently when firing up Adobe Photoshop 2021 on a 2019 Macbook Pro with MacOS 10.15.5 and trying to open files:
After some Google searching, I tried to resolve the issue by:
- Reinstalling the program completely
- Computer restart
- Erasing all preferences in
~/Library/Preferences/
related to Adobe Photoshop - Downgrading (this one actually works as well, but breaks auto-updates)
- Breakdown and contact support. Contact Customer Care
Solution
The solution is fairly straightforward, open Adobe Photoshop 2021
and navigate to Edit > Preferences > Performance
and uncheck Use Graphics Processor
as seen in the screenshot below:
I learned this while contacting Adobe support. It's a bug their engineers are aware of:
"It is a known issue and our engineers are working on it to resolve the issue. It will soon get fixed in future updates and you will be able to use GPU in Photoshop 22v application like before without any error."
The error is listed currently as of this post's publish date: Known issues in Photoshop
Alternative solution if you really need that GPU Processing is just to downgrade (from Adobe Create Cloud Manager) as seen below.
Just click the three dots when hovering over the software name in the list. Click Other Versions
and a new modal will appear with a installable, older version of Photoshop.
Hope this helps you if you came across this error.
